What is the Unifying Theme?
When UCF asked students what they care about, undergraduates responded with a clear, unified voice: the Environment and Global Climate Change. UCF undergraduates are passionate about creating a just and sustainable future. This passion has become the driving force behind the University of Central Florida’s Unifying Theme.
The General Education Program (GEP) at UCF expands and enhances a broad range of academic skills to develop confident, prepared students who present a well-reasoned voice in our global community. The Unifying Theme was created to focus discussion and reflection across the General Education Program. This initiative encompasses a variety of intellectual experiences and conversations as well as curricular and extracurricular activities. Thus, the Unifying Theme encourages UCF undergraduate students at all academic stages to engage in an interdisciplinary, academic discourse about the Environment and Global Climate Change, potential solutions, and opportunities for direct student action. UCF students have chosen the Environment and Global Climate Change as more than an academic topic--it’s a cause to which they are deeply committed. Education is an important first step toward synergy at UCF with our environment.
The Unifying Theme website gathers and organizes faculty-submitted resources and research for use in the campus-wide sustainability initiative. Students and faculty can visit this site to learn more about the theme, find out about campus and community events, read articles, and conduct research for courses.
